Jenkins played 17 games with Triple-A El Paso this season, posting a 7.76 ERA with a 1.99 WHIP during the course of 82.1 innings. Although he provided eight starts with the Braves last season, Jenkins was unable to find a role in San Diego's rotation, and will look to latch on elsewhere.

With Carter Capps (elbow) reaching the end of his rehab window, the Padres cleared room to activate the reliever from the 60-day disabled list by dropping Jenkins from their 40-man roster. The 24-year-old Jenkins once held some promise while he was coming up in the Cardinals organization, but walks have been a major issue for him in the upper minors and during his eight-start run with the Braves in 2016. He's delivered a 6.71 ERA and 44:41 K:BB over 61.2 innings at Triple-A El Paso this season.

Jenkins was fantastic in Triple-A for the Braves in 2016 (2.47 ERA over 17 games) but struggled upon promotion to the majors. As he still had options remaining, the Padres had little reason not to claim him off waivers and give him a shot to make the club out of spring training. The big question will be if he can ever figure out his control -- Jenkins walked 33 batters in just 52 MLB innings last season, and no matter how many ground balls or strikeouts he induces, that 5.7 BB/9 just won't play.

Jenkins -- who was claimed off waivers -- was vying for a rotation spot, but a shaky start to the spring (7.20 ERA over five innings) has reduced his opportunities to a bullpen role. The athletic pitcher didn't have much fantasy buzz as a potential starter, and now he can safely be ignored with his Opening Day ceiling being a reliever.
