He said he’s accepted a coaching spot in the Rockies organization. Wolters never did hit much, but he was an excellent defensive catcher. The incredible thing there is that he actually spent his first two pro seasons as a middle infielder before making the move behind the plate. Wolters got all but 34 of his plate appearances as a major leaguer with the Rockies and hit .262/.337/.329 in 411 plate appearances in his one full year as a starter in 2019. Overall, he came in at .235/.321/.314 in 407 games.

Wolters logged only four MLB plate appearances in 2022 -- all with the Dodgers -- and struck out three times. He spent the majority of the season with their Triple-A affiliate in Oklahoma City, slashing .230/.321/.284 across 61 games played. The 30-year-old will function as organizational depth behind the plate for Minnesota in 2023.

Wolters was released by the Dodgers last week after going unclaimed on waivers and has elected to re-unite with the organization as emergency catching depth.

Wolters cleared waivers after being designated for assignment but the Dodgers have elected to cut him loose. He was hitless in four plate appearances with them.
