The 32-year-old utilityman had latched on with the Reds on a minor league deal in early July. There, he hit .237/.338/.364 with three homers and 17 RBI over 139 plate appearances. He’s now free to latch on elsewhere if he so chooses.
Reds signed INF/OF Tony Kemp to a minor league contract.
Kemp heads to Triple-A Louisville as extra organizational outfield depth for Cincinnati, after spending time with the Twins and Orioles earlier this year in the minors. The 32-yea-old was a mainstay in Oakland’s outfield mix the last few years and has appeared in 739 contests in the big leagues dating back to 2016.
Twins released INF/OF Tony Kemp.
Kemp opted out of his deal with the Twins after hitting .279/.358/.436 in 46 games for Triple-A St Paul. His next organization will be his fourth since exiting Oakland as a free agent; he was let go by the Reds this spring and the Orioles in April.
Twins signed Tony Kemp to a minor league deal, according to New York Post’s Jon Heyman.
The 32-year-old journeyman lands in Minnesota’s organization after he started the season with the Orioles. Kemp was released by Baltimore after the team called up top prospect Jackson Holliday and failed to record a hit in his five games this season. He’ll be a solid veteran presence and have an opportunity with the Twins barring any injuries to their outfield.
