Collins made nine relief appearances for the Cubs in 2019, spending most of the season with Triple-A Iowa, where he recorded a 4.67 ERA, 1.33 WHIP and 37:16 K:BB across 27 innings. The 30-year-old served as the Royals primary set-up man during 2013 and will have the opportunity to make an impression on his fourth major-league coaching staff this spring.

Collins, who was designated for assignment last week, will report to Iowa after passing through waivers untouched. The southpaw owns a 3.12 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 4:3 K:BB in 8.2 innings with the Cubs this season.

The Cubs selected Collins' contract earlier this week but he ended up spending only a couple days on the 40-man roster. Left-hander Derek Holland was acquired from San Francisco in a corresponding move.
