The 29-year-old hurler had been placed on outright waivers earlier in the week, but he passed through without being claimed. Assuming that he accepts the assignment, he’ll continue to function as extra rotation depth for the Mets at the Triple-A level.

Reid-Foley will be officially released if he clears outright waivers. The 29-year-old right-hander missed the final three-plus months of last year with a shoulder impingement. He’s been officially removed from New York’s 40-man roster and should be able to latch on somewhere else in the coming days.

Reid-Foley had a 1.66 ERA in 23 relief appearances before missing the final 3 1/2 months of last season with a shoulder impingement. The 29-year-old has pitched in parts of seven big-league seasons, but in part because of injuries, he’s totaled just 131 2/3 innings.

The procedural move opened up a spot on New York’s 40-man roster for the club to claim outfielder José Azocar off waivers from the Padres. The 29-year-old righty has been out since mid-June die to a right shoulder impingement.
