Phillies signed vice president and general manager Sam Fuld to a contract extension through 2025.
It's a well-deserved deal for Fuld, who has helped Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski engineer a rapid turnaround in just a few seasons. Assistant general managers Ned Rice and Jorge Velandia have also been extended through the 2025 season.
Phillies hired Sam Fuld as general manager.
This makes official what was reported on Tuesday afternoon. Fuld will move from the role of major league player information coordinator and serve under new president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski. He'll bring an analytical touch to the team's decision-making process. Also part of Tuesday's announcement, the Phillies will promote Jorge Velandia to assistant general manager and longtime baseball executive Terry Ryan to special assistant to the general manager.
Sam Fuld will undergo season-ending surgery to repair his torn rotator cuff.
Fuld wasn't able to debut this season due to a shoulder injury that will now need surgery. He'll undergo the surgery on May 18th and is out for 2016. His absence shouldn't create much of a change in playing time for Oakland.
Sam Fuld is working on strengthening his shoulder, still no timetable for his return.
The 34-year old outfielder is not looking close to making a return to the lineup. The A's have enough depth in the outfield to get by without Fuld in the early part of the season, so look for him to come along slowly in the early part of the season.
