Sal Romano has signed with the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League.
Romano was cut loose by the Red Sox earlier this month after struggling at Triple-A Worcester and will attempt to rebuild his long-term value with a stint on his native Long Island. The 30-year-old righty hasn’t appeared in the majors since the 2021 campaign.

Romano, who signed a minor league pact with Boston back in late April, hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since the 2021 season and was cut loose earlier this week by the Red Sox after posting a bloated 9.24 ERA, 1.74 WHIP and 15/13 K/BB ratio across 25 1/3 innings (15 appearances) for Triple-A Worcester.

Romano will head to Triple-A Rochester. The 30-year-old hurler hasn’t pitched in the majors since 2021 when he was with the Yankees. He owns a career 5.23 ERA, 1.48 WHIP with a 211/109 K/BB ratio across 275 1/3 innings since 2017.

Romano signed a minor league deal with the Mariners last month and made 14 relief appearances last year in the majors between the Reds, Yankees and Brewers. The 28-year-old righty steps away from the game with a 5.23 ERA, 1.48 WHIP and 211/109 K/BB ratio across 275 1/3 innings (88 appearances, 41 starts) since 2017.
