Rays released INF Ryon Healy.

This will allow Healy the opportunity to potentially latch on with a new organization before the 2022 regular season gets underway late next week. He signed a minor league contract with Tampa Bay earlier this month after spending the 2021 campaign in the Korea Baseball Organization.

The 30-year-old spent the 2021 season in the Korea Baseball Organization, but hit just .257/.306/.394 with seven homers in 67 games before getting released by the Hanwha Eagles. Healy has the ability to play both corner infield positions and has mashed at the big league level in the past, so perhaps the Rays can get something out of him in 2022.

Healy was signed to a $1 million deal in December to join the KBO, but it didn't go particularly well, as the former MLB player hit .257/.306/.394 with seven homers in 67 games. Healy is now free to sign with another club -- MLB or otherwise -- but his lack of success as of late likely means there won't be many suitors.

The 28-year-old elected free agency in November after being sent outright to Triple-A by the Brewers. Rather than trying to secure a minor league contract this winter, he'll look to rebuild his stock overseas. Healy saw just seven plate appearances with the Brewers in 2020, going 1-for-7 with a pair of strikeouts. He has been limited to only 194 big league plate appearances over the last two seasons.
