Ryder Jones -- who recently signed a minor league contract with the Braves -- announced on his Instagram that he is making the switch to pitching full-time.

The 28-year-old struggled in his time at Triple-A Charlotte during the 2022 season, slashing a miserable .196/.269/.318 with seven homers and 27 RBI, so this could be his best shot at prolonging his baseball career. Jones was a two-way player in college but has logged just one inning on the mound in the minor leagues.

The 28-year-old slugger hasn't appeared in a big league game since the 2018 season with the Giants. He spent the 2022 campaign in the White Sox system where he slashed a paltry .196/.269/.318 with seven homers and 27 RBI in 242 plate appearances. This looks like nothing more than a depth signing for the Braves.

Jones, a former second-round pick by the Giants, will likely be a corner-infield option for Triple-A Charlotte in 2022. He did post an .834 OPS over three levels in 75 games while in the Arizona organization last year, but faces an uphill battle to make the Chicago roster this spring.
