Yankees signed LHP Ryan Yarbrough to a one-year contract.
Yarbrough was released by the Blue Jays on Sunday, and it didn’t take long for him to find a new home. He’ll be a multi-inning option for the Yankees, and possibly could make starts if options like Will Warren and Carlos Carrasco scuffle. Luis Gil (lat) was placed on the IL to make room.
The Yankees are signing Ryan Yarbrough, who failed to make the Blue Jays, to a major league deal.
Yarbrough is a useful pitcher regardless, but he also had a little extra on high-80s fastball this spring. He can help the Yankees as a middle reliever and an occasional spot starter.
Blue Jays released LHP Ryan Yarbrough.
Yarbrough will hit the free agent market in search of a new opportunity after failing to secure a spot on Toronto’s season-opening roster. The soft-tossing 33-year-old southpaw figures to soak up innings somewhere this season in a swingman-type role.
Ryan Yarbrough has informed the Blue Jays that he plans to exercise his opt-out clause if he’s not added to the team’s roster.
The Jays have until 2 PM on Sunday to find a spot for Yarbrough on their active roster, otherwise he’ll explore opportunities elsewhere. At this stage, it would be very surprising if the Jays don’t find a way to work him into their bullpen mix considering the versatility that he provides with his ability to work multiple innings.
