Rua was outrighted from the Rangers' 40-man roster Friday and is expected to elect free agency.
Rua was drafted by Texas in 2011 and has spent parts of the past five seasons playing for the Rangers at the major-league level. He hit just .194/.221/.360 with 12 RBI in 61 games for the club in 2018. Wherever the 28-year-old winds up, he will likely serve as organizational depth next season.
Rua (back) was activated from the 10-day disabled list Monday.
Rua, who resumed running and swinging a bat over the weekend, is back with the Rangers after spending more than six weeks on the disabled list with a back injury. The 28-year-old should provide outfield depth while offering a right-handed bat off the bench for the Rangers. Prior to injuring himself, Rua hit just .194/.223/.371 with six homers in 56 games for the big club.
Rua (back) is running and swinging a bat, Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports.
Rua, who hasn't played in the majors since July 26, could return to the active roster before the season ends.
Rua (back) had an anti-inflammation injection Friday after being recalled from his minor-league assignment, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.
Rua was sent on a rehab assignment with Double-A Frisco on Monday, but after he suffered a setback, he elected to get a shot. There's no clear timetable for his return from the disabled list, but if Rua begins to feel better in the coming days, he'll likely resume his rehab stint.
