Ryan O’Hearn went 2-for-3 with a three-run homer Thursday in the Orioles’ 6-2 defeat of the Guardians.
The homer was hit 393 feet, but since it was hit just to the right of dead center, it would have been out of only six ballparks, according to Statcast. It was the third homer of the year for O’Hearn, who is now batting an impressive .326/.404/.587 in 52 plate appearances. It’s unclear what he’d have to do in order to exit his platoon role. His fine showing last year wasn’t enough; he started just three games against southpaws in 2024. He’s yet to be included in the lineup against a lefty this season.
Ryan O’Hearn went 2-for-4 with a solo homer in a win for the Orioles on Monday over the Diamondbacks.
Ryan O’Hearn went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair of runs on Thursday evening as the Orioles fell to the Pirates.
After grounding out in his first at-bat against Paul Skenes, O’Hearn smacked a one-out single off of the Pirates’ ace in the third inning. He then delivered a game-tying two-run single off of Ryan Harbin in the fourth inning. With the two-hit attack, the 31-year-old slugger is now hitting .200 (3-for-15) with no homers and two RBI so far in Grapefruit League play.
Orioles picked up the $7.5M option on 1B Ryan O’Hearn.
O’Hearn enjoyed his second straight solid season on the strong side of a platoon for the Orioles. The 31-year-old slashed .264/.334/.427 with 15 home runs, 60 runs, 59 RBI, and three steals in 142 games. He also cut his strikeout rate to just 14 percent while walking 9.3 percent of the time. By this point, we know who O’Hearn is as a fantasy player. He’ll produce a solid batting average with 15 home run power in a good lineup and that will make him valuable in deeper formats when the Orioles are facing lots of right-handed pitching.
