Phillies released OF Ryan Cordell.
Cordell was hitting .198/.292/.411 with 12 homers and eight steals at Triple-A Lehigh Valley prior to his release earlier this week. The 29-year-old outfielder logged five games with the Mets during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.
Phillies signed OF Ryan Cordell to a minor league contract.
The deal was actually listed on the transactions page of MiLB.com late last month, though he's yet to appear in a game. The 29-year-old appeared in five games with the Mets last year and holds a weak .202/.263/.328 batting line over 295 plate appearances in the majors. However, he can play all three outfield positions and could work as a bench player in a pinch.
Mets designated OF Ryan Cordell for assignment.
The move clears a spot for the newly-claimed Robel García off waivers. Cordell appeared in five games with the Mets this season while going 1-for-8.
Mets purchased the contract of OF Ryan Cordell from their alternate training site.
He's taking the place of the injured Andres Gimenez on the Mets roster for the second game of Saturday's doubleheader. The 28-year-old is a career .205/.267/.333 hitter with eight homers and 28 RBI in 291 plate appearances at the big league level.
