Yankees released 2B Rougned Odor.

Odor signed a minor league deal with the Yankees back in early April and never made it back to the Bronx for a second stint with the club. This might be the end of the road for the well-traveled 30-year-old second baseman after struggling last year with the Padres. If this is truly it, he certainly left an impression, most notably on Blue Jays slugger Jose Bautista back in 2016 during an on-field brawl.

This will be Odor’s second stint with the Yankees after he spent the 2021 season in the Bronx. The 30-year-old spent his first seven seasons in the majors with the Rangers and has been with three different clubs over the past three seasons (NYY in 2021, BAL in 2022 and SD in 2023). He slashed .203/.299/.355 across 157 plate appearances with the Padres last season. He signed a one-year contract with Yomiuri Giants of Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball this offseason but left the team three days before Opening Day because the team wanted to put him in the minor league system.

Odor heads overseas after posting a lackluster .675 OPS with four homers and two steals in 59 games last year for the Padres. Still just 29 years old, there’s a chance he’s able to rebuild his value in Japan to earn another shot in the big leagues.
