RHP Ross Detwiler has elected free agency.
The 36-year-old southpaw was designated for assignment by the Reds on Tuesday, but rather than accepting an outright assignment to Triple-A Louisville, Detwiler will peddle his wares on the open market. He holds a 4.44 ERA, 1.56 WHIP and 28/10 K/BB ratio over 26 1/3 innings at the big league level this season.
Reds designated LHP Ross Detwiler for assignment.
This comes after Detwiler surrendered the 694th home run of Albert Pujols' career in Monday night's blowout loss to the Cardinals. He is the 450th different pitcher that Pujols has homered against, a new MLB record.
Ross Detwiler got his second career save by pitching a scoreless 10th inning Sunday against the Brewers.
Detwiler's only previous save came with the Nationals in 2014, his first year as a reliever. He has a 3.50 ERA in18 innings for the Reds.
Reds activated LHP Ross Detwiler from the 15-day injured list.
Detwiler has been out the last three weeks with a back injury. He'll return to middle relief.
