It’s been a bizarre odyssey the last few years for Canó, who hasn’t appeared in the big leagues since a disastrous 33-game stint during the 2022 campaign between the Mets, Padres and Braves.

Canó refused an outright assignment to Triple-A Gwinnett after being pushed off the 40-man roster in Atlanta on Monday. This might be the end of the road -- or very close to it -- for the 17-year MLB veteran. He had slashed just .150/.183/.190 in 33 games this season between the Mets, Padres, and Braves.

Canó has been jettisoned from the Braves' roster to make room for newly-acquired utility infielder Ehire Adrianza. The 39-year-old veteran second baseman, who was scooped up from the Padres back in early July, wound up appearing in just nine games for the Braves.

Canó was lifted from Friday night's game after feeling lightheaded. With left-hander Patrick Sandoval on the hill for the Angels on Saturday though, it's likely that the veteran second baseman would have been on the pine regardless of how he was feeling. He should be considered day-to-day.
