Nationals signed INF Richard Ureña to a minor league contract.

Ureña spent the entire 2021 campaign at Triple-A Buffalo in the Blue Jays' minor-league system, hitting .272/.310/.438 with nine homers and two steals across 350 plate appearances. The 25-year-old infielder holds a .253/.300/.336 triple-slash line across 263 career plate appearances at the big-league level since 2017. He'll serve as organizational infield depth with the Nationals next season.

Blue Jays signed INF Richard Urena to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

The Orioles claimed Urena off waivers from the Blue Jays last offseason, but he was released in June before making an appearance for them. The 24-year-old will give Toronto some infield depth.

Urena is one of 37 players that were released by the Orioles recently. The infielder was designated for assignment in February and went unclaimed when put on waivers. The 23-year-old has struggled against MLB pitching with a .253/.300/.336 slash over 263 plate appearances.

Urena cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Norfolk on Sunday, Rich Dubroff of BaltimoreBaseball.com reports.

Urena was designated for assignment by Baltimore last week but will remain in the organization after going through waivers unclaimed. The 23-year-old will continue to work in the major-league camp as a non-roster invitee.
