Phillies sent RHP Ricardo Pinto outright to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Pinto has the option to elect free agency, but could wind up sticking around as extra organizational relief depth. The 30-year-old righty made it back to the majors this year for the first time since 2019, getting into six contests for the Phillies before being jettisoned from the club’s 40-man roster.

Pinto was removed from the active and 40-man roster with the Phillies needing the room for Taijuan Walker, who is coming off the injured list to start Sunday against the Padres. Pinto was ineffective to say the least in his appearances with Philadelphia with a 10.97 ERA and 8/5 K/BB ratio over six appearances.

Pinto will be making his first big-league appearance since 2019 when he gets into a game for the Phillies. The 30-year-old journeyman gets the call ahead of Tuesday’s showdown against the Reds with veteran reliever Connor Brogdon losing his spot in Philadelphia’s bullpen mix.

Phillies signed RHP Ricardo Pinto to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.

Pinto will be in Phillies camp this spring to compete for a spot on the club’s season-opening roster. The 30-year-old journeyman righty is more of an organizational depth addition at this juncture of his career. He hasn’t appeared in the majors since the 2019 campaign and spent last year pitching in the independent Mexican League.
