Randal Grichuk smacked a go-ahead two-run double in the seventh inning on Friday as the Diamondbacks topped the Nationals in Washington.
Grichuk entered the game as a pinch hitter with two men on and two men out in the seventh inning and came through in a big way, smacking a 1-2 sinker from Jose Ferrer into center field for a two-run double. He’s now hitting .286 (4-for-14) with zero homers and a pair of RBI to begin the 2025 campaign.
Randal Grichuk is starting as the Diamondbacks’ designated hitter and batting seventh on Opening Day against left-hander Justin Steele and the Cubs on Thursday evening.
Grichuk should find his way into the lineup on most days against left-handed pitching, either as the designated hitter or in the outfield. Jake McCarthy remains in the lineup despite the left-hander on the mound as he’ll start in center field and bat eighth for the Diamondbacks.
Randal Grichuk (ankle) is back in the lineup for Thursday’s Cactus League game versus the Athletics.
Grichuk ended up missing a couple of days after leaving Monday’s contest with left ankle soreness.
Randal Grichuk was removed from Monday’s game against the Angels with left ankle soreness.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo told reporters that Grichuk will be re-evaluated over the next few days, but didn’t seem overly concerned. The 33-year-old veteran will open the year in a lefty-mashing platoon role for Arizona. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now.
