James Wagner of the Washington Post is reporting Rafael Soriano has decided to retire.
After pitching just 5 2/3 innings last season, Soriano is going to hang it up. Age caught up to Soriano quickly over the last two seasons, but he had a strong major league career overall. He will finish his major league career with a 2.89 ERA and 207 saves.
Rafael Soriano is not in camp yet due to visa issues.
Much like Roger Bernadina for the Mets, Soriano is having some visa issues, delaying his arrival to camp. He is going to compete for a bullpen spot, but he won't be the closer for the team. Roberto Osuna and Drew Storen are the favorites to win the gig, lowering Soriano's fantasy outlook for 2016.
Blue Jays have signed Rafael Soriano to a minor-league contract.
No guarantee he makes the Blue Jays final Opening Day roster and he has no chance at taking the closer job away from starter Roberto Osuna or leapfrog bullpen ace Aaron Sanchez. As a result, Rafael Soriano is irrelevant these days for fantasy purposes.
Rafael Soriano is pitching well in the Dominican League and has drawn attention from a few MLB teams.
Soriano has proven to be a solid reliever in his time in the big leagues and is trying to work his way back onto a squad pitching in the Dominican League. Expect teams to give him a call and give him a shot to make a roster in Spring Training.
