Guardians placed RHP Paul Sewald on the 15-day injured list with a strained right shoulder.
It’s difficult to say when we might see Sewald again. The former Mariners and Diamondbacks closer had a 6.17 ERA and three holds in 11 2/3 innings before leaving Monday’s game.
Paul Sewald was removed from Monday’s relief appearance against the Twins with right shoulder inflammation.
Shoulder issues tend to require lengthy absences, so it certainly sounds like a potential injured list situation. Sewald was lifted from Monday’s relief appearance against the Twins and will likely undergo further imaging to determine whether he’s dealing with any structural damage.
Paul Sewald left Monday’s relief appearance against the Twins with a trainer.
Sewald appeared to be in some discomfort after delivering a fifth-inning pitch and was lifted from the contest following a visit from Cleveland’s training staff. He’ll head for further evaluation. There should be an update on his status following Monday’s series opener.
Paul Sewald picked up a save in his Guardians’ debut on Opening Day, working a scoreless 10th inning against the Royals.
Emmanuel Clase suffered a blown save in the ninth inning of this one and Hunter Gaddis, Tim Herrin and Cade Smith had each been used already, so it was Sewald who was tasked with protecting a three-run lead in the home half of the 10th. He looked awfully impressive, getting Kyle Isbel on strikes, Jonathan India on a fly ball to center and Bobby Witt Jr. on a fly out to right to end it. He’s got plenty of closing experience and could wind up being the next man up should injury or ineffectiveness befall Clase.
