2025 Player Outlook

While Lopez took a step back in 2024 compared to 2023, he was still an above average fantasy arm, as he won a career-high 15 games with a 4.08 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and the lowest walk rate (5.3%) of his career. It was really a tale of two halves for Lopez last year, as his 5.11 ERA and 1.56 HR/9 allowed across 104 IP to begin the year tested the patience of many fantasy managers. However, after the All-Star Break, while his strikeout rate dipped a bit, he posted a 2.77 ERA and 0.89 HR/9. Lopez is just outside of the SP1 range, but he profiles as a high-end SP2 who will give your team strong ratios and 200+ strikeouts across 180+ IP.

Player News

Pablo Lopez allowed four runs in six innings and got a no-decision in the Twins’ 7-6 victory over the Giants on Sunday.

Lopez gave up five hits, walked two and struck out six. It was a far cry from the dominant 11-strikeout performance he turned in his last time out against the Orioles. Lopez’ 2.77 ERA this season isn’t quite supported by his 3.05 xFIP, though it isn’t far off. Fantasy managers have to be pleased with his strikeout production overall as he’s recorded 43 strikeouts in 39 innings. Lopez is lined up to start again next weekend against the Brewers on the road.

Pablo López delivered a dominant performance in Tuesday night’s victory over the Orioles, racking up a season-high 11 strikeouts over five innings of one-run baseball.

The 29-year-old right-hander scattered just two hits on the evening while issuing one free pass. The only blemish on his day came in the form of a run-scoring double by Ryan Mountcastle in the fourth inning. López generated 18 swings and misses on 98 pitches on the night — 11 of those on his fastball — while posting a CSW of 31 percent. He’ll look to replicate this fine outing as he carries a stellar 2.18 ERA, 0.94 WHIP and a 37/5 K/BB ratio (33 innings) into Sunday’s battle against the Giants.

Pablo López was charged with two runs over 6 1/3 innings on Wednesday in a loss to the Guardians.

López carried a shutout into the seventh inning before the Guardians finally broke through when he launched an ill-advised throw down the first-base line on Carlos Santana’s infield single, which allowed José Ramírez to scamper home on the play. He was charged with an additional run when Brock Stewart coughed up a three-run homer following his departure. He struck out six and didn’t hand out a free pass, but was still saddled with a loss in this one. He’ll bring a sparkling 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 26/4 K/BB ratio across 28 innings (five starts) into a home matchup on Tuesday against the Orioles.

The 29-year-old right-hander piled up six strikeouts on the night while issuing a pair of walks. He needed 101 pitches to get through his five innings, but with a seven-run advantage he may have called it a night after five frames anyways. The damage done against him came on an RBI single by Jo Adell in the second inning and an RBI knock by Mike Trout in the fifth. López got 11 swings and misses on the night, registering a CSW of 28 percent. Now 2-1 on the season, he’ll carry a pristine 2.08 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and a 20/4 K/BB ratio (21 2/3 innings) into Wednesday’s battle against the Guardians in Cleveland.
