Red Sox signed INF Niko Goodrum to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Goodrum logged only 45 major league plate appearances in 2022 -- all with the Astros -- and batted just .116/.156/.163 with zero home runs and one stolen base. The 30-year-old will function as organizational infield depth for Boston leading into camp. He has also played a bit of outfield in his career.
Astros released INF Niko Goodrum.
Goodrum went unclaimed on waivers after being designated for assignment earlier this week. He signed a one-year, $2.1 million contract with the Astros back in March and wound up appearing in just 15 games this season, hitting .116 (5-for-43) with 23 strikeouts in 45 plate appearances. The 30-year-old infielder will likely have to settle for a minor league contract to rebuild his value elsewhere.
Astros designated INF Niko Goodrum for assignment.
The Astros had to make room for Hunter Brown and Yainer Diaz, and did so by designating Goodrum and Peter Solomon for assignment. The infielder was awful in his limited time with the Astros; going 5-for-43 with 23 strikeouts, and likely will just be organizational depth going forward.
Astros optioned INF Niko Goodrum to Triple-A Sugar Land.
Goodrum was optioned after the Astros acquired utility infielder Mauricio Dubon in a trade with the Giants. Goodrum was just 5-for-43 at the plate with 23 strikeouts.
