Swisher officially announced his retirement via the Players' Tribune on Friday.

The 36-year-old Swisher officially called it a career Friday after 11 seasons in the majors. He last played at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in the Yankees' organization last season, but ultimately opted out of his deal shortly before the All-Star break. Swisher played with six different major league clubs during his career and made the All-Star team in 2010 as a member of the Yankees when he slashed .288/.359/.511 with 29 home runs and 89 RBI. He ended his retirement statement by saying, in classic Swisher fashion, "This dream is over, y'all. But another one is about to begin. The roller coaster is not stopping, it's just switching tracks."

Nick Swisher has opted out of his minor league deal with the Yankees.

This has more to do with his family than it does his lack of love for the game. Swisher wasn't likely going to make the majors as the Yankees chose three or four players before him to play first base while Mark Teixeira was injured. Swisher's wife just had another kid and he wants to be their to help raise it. Who knows if we will see Swisher back in professional baseball but for now, he's going to be a stay-at-home father.

Yankees announce they've signed Nick Swisher to a minor league contract.

Swisher was cut by Atlanta at the end of spring training, probably due to his salary on a rebuilding team. He will wait for an injury to one of the Yankee's players to make a move back to the majors, where his bat will come in handy in NY.

Braves have released Nick Swisher.

Swisher, at 35, is clearly at the end of his playing career at this point and just didn't show anywhere near enough in spring training to make the roster. The downside to the move for Atlanta is that they will now have to eat his $15 million salary for the 2016 season, part of which is covered by the Indians. If someone does decide to take a chance on the veteran bat, the Braves would likely benefit from the freed up money.
