2024 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: A hamstring issue popped up on multiple occasions for Yastrzemski last year, limiting him to just 381 plate appearances for the Giants in 2023. When on the field, he slashed .233/.330/.445, but prior to his first trip to the IL, he had posted a .521 SLG! Upon his return, and inconsistent availability, he slugged just .415 with a .209 batting average. Despite being on and off the injured list for the majority of the season, he maintained solid plate discipline metrics, providing some optimism for 2024.
2024 Outlook: Yastrzemski has largely been ineffective in his career against left-handed pitching, and the Giants have no problem deploying platoons, so expect him to sit more often than not when the opposition sends out a southpaw to begin the game. However, that still puts him on the larger side of the platoon, and he has a career .484 SLG, .821 OPS, and .237 ISO against right-handed pitching. He can provide some cheap power in the later rounds of NL-only setups, and maybe approach 18-22 home runs by season's end, if he can stay healthy in his age-33 season.
