Gonzalez underwent shoulder surgery Wednesday and will be out for 9-to-12 months.
Doctors performed a labral repair and debridement on Gonzalez's injured right shoulder. The recovery timeline means he'll miss at least all of next year's spring training and could miss up to half the year.
Gonzalez (shoulder) will be examined and evaluated after having a setback earlier this week at Triple-A Charlotte, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Gonzalez had made one start while on a rehabilitation assignment with the Knights but then felt some discomfort in his shoulder after throwing a side session. He could be sidelined for another extended period, but we'll need to see the results of his exam.

Gonzalez tossed 37 pitches (26 strikes) in the first start of his rehabilitation assignment. The 34-year-old right-hander is expected to make another two or three starts while rehabbing with the Knights.
