Mark Teixeira is out of the Yankees lineup Monday.
Teixeira played a big role in Friday's outcome but since then has sat on Saturday and now Monday. The veteran slugger has struggled mightily this season and has ceded playing time to Tyler Austin, who appears to be the next starter at first along with Greg Bird. He will get another off day on Monday against the Dodgers and rookie pitcher Jose De Leon while Austin bats seventh in the lineup. His playing time will continue to be too sporadic to count on him in season long leagues but could have value in the right matchup in DFS situations.

He is still being hampered by a neck issue that has kept him out of the last few games, though he was used as a defensive replacement late in Monday's game against Toronto. Tex is still being considered day-to-day though Tyler Austin will continue to see a lot of playing time as the Yankees turn the page to the Baby Bombers era.
Mark Teixeira is dealing with a sore neck.
It appears as though Sunday's day off could have something to do with Teixeira's sore neck, but at any rate, it makes sense that the Yankees would rest their first baseman today against a left-handed pitcher. Teixeira has dealt with a sore neck for a little while now, and it kept him out of two games earlier this week, so it should be something to monitor moving forward.
Mark Teixeira is out of the Yankees lineup Sunday.
With the Yankees set to face off against left-hander Wade Miley, the switch-hitting first basemen will get the day off seeing that he's hitting sub .200 against left-handed pitching so far in 2016. The 36-year-old is struggling mightily in his last season before he calls it quits, hitting just .200 with 11 home runs, 33 RBIs, and a .618 OPS. Yikes. Tyler Austin will get the nod at first base today and is hitting eighth against Baltimore today.
