Gohara was a highly-ranked prospect not all that long ago, but he ran into shoulder issues in the spring of 2019 and ultimately got released by the Braves before the end of the season. He went on to sign a minor league contract with the Angels, and it's all but official that there will be no minor league baseball games in 2020. The 23-year-old left-hander might not get another shot until 2021.

Gohara was let go by the Braves in early August and has yet to pitch at any level in 2019 due to a shoulder injury. The 23-year-old was once a highly-touted prospect, but he had a 4.94 ERA and 1.27 WHIP at Triple-A last season and allowed 13 runs over 19.2 frames in the majors. The specifics of Gohara's injury remain unclear, but there's been no indication he'll be able to take the mound this season.

Gohara was a hyped young pitcher in the fairly recent past. Today, he's a 23-year-old free agent. He's seen his stock fall precipitously after a pair of injury-filled seasons. Shoulder issues have prevented him from throwing a pitch at any level this season, and it's possible things are worse than they'd appeared given that the Braves have now given up on him entirely. Whichever team ends up with him will be getting a pitcher who is still quite young and who showed considerable promise as recently as 2017, when he recorded a 2.62 ERA and a 28.4 percent strikeout rate across the three highest levels of the minors.

Gohara, who hasn't pitched competitively all season due to a balky left shoulder, was dropped from Atlanta's 40-man roster to free up a spot for Shane Greene, who was acquired from the Tigers on Wednesday. The southpaw is still just 23 years old and carries some prospect pedigree, so he could certainly draw some interest on waivers.
