Luis Torrens finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a walk versus the A’s on Sunday.
He just missed five straight games with a forearm bruise, but Torrens has excelled while filling in for Francisco Alvarez, batting .333/.375/.567 in 32 plate appearances. He’s still due to return to his reserve role once Alvarez is activated.
Luis Torrens (forearm) returned to the Mets’ lineup for Friday’s series opener against the Athletics.
The 28-year-old backstop had been shelved since last Friday due to a bruised forearm. He’ll do the catching for Griffin Canning on Friday night and will bat eighth against Athletics’ left-hander JP Sears.
An MRI on Luis Torrens’ bruised forearm came back negative, and he remains day-to-day.
