White Sox released OF Luis Alexander Basabe.
Basabe signed a minor league contract with the White Sox last November after missing half of the 2021 campaign due to a left wrist injury. The 25-year-old outfielder, who appeared in nine contests for the Giants during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, was hitting .080/.115/.160 with zero homers in 26 plate appearances over nine games at Triple-A Charlotte this season.
White Sox signed OF Luis Alexander Basabe to a minor league contract.
The 25-year-old outfielder missed the first half of the 2021 season with a muscle sprain in his left wrist. He wound up hitting .253/.393/.411 with three homers, 12 RBI and five stolen bases in 117 plate appearances between the Giants Rookie League affiliate and Double-A Richmond. He'll add outfield depth in the upper minors for the White Sox.
Giants manager Gabe Kapler said Friday that Luis Alexander Basabe will miss 6-to-8 weeks with his left wrist sprain.
Basabe suffered the injury while diving for a ball in right field during Tuesday's Cactus League game. That injury ruins any slim chances that he had of cracking the Opening Day roster in a reserve role. The 24-year-old was 1-for-9 (.111) with a 3/1 K/BB ratio and a pair of stolen bases in Cactus League action.
Luis Alexander Basabe has been diagnosed with a left wrist muscle sprain.
Basabe suffered the injury during a Cactus League game on Tuesday afternoon against the Brewers when he dove for a ball in right field. The diagnosis certainly could have been worse, but he will be sidelined for a bit in Giants camp and can probably be ruled out of the mix for the Opening Day roster.
