Morrison signed a minor league contract with the Reds last summer after spending a few games with the High Point Rockers, but never made it back to the majors. The 34-year-old journeyman slugger last appeared in the big leagues during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign when he got into nine games for the Brewers.

Reds signed 1B Logan Morrison to a minor league contract.

The 33-year-old struggled during his time with the Brewers during the 2020 campaign -- hitting just .120/.214/.280 with one homer, two RBI and an 8/3 K/BB ratio in 28 plate appearances -- then failed to land an invite to spring training over the winter. He was off to a strong start with the High Point Rockers of the independent Atlantic League though, slashing .370/.486/.741 with three long balls, nine RBI and a 7/3 K/BB ratio through nine games. He's nothing more than minor league depth for the Reds at this point.

The release from the High Point Rockers notes that Morrison intends to play for Team USA in Olympic qualifying this summer, so his time in independent ball will be a tuneup of sorts. The 33-year-old failed to latch on with a major league club this winter after hitting .120/.214/.280 in 28 plate appearances with the Brewers in 2020.

Morrison cleared waivers after being designated for assignment, but he declined an outright and will instead look for a gig elsewhere. He seems unlikely to find one that will offer assured playing time.
