Diamondbacks placed RHP Kendall Graveman on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to March 24, with a right lumbar strain.
Graveman, who missed last season following shoulder surgery, hasn’t pitched in two weeks after a back flareup. He’ll contend for a setup role once healthy.
Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo said Wednesday that Kendall Graveman experienced back tightness following Tuesday’s live batting practice session.
Not great. Graveman’s ongoing back issues make it highly unlikely that he’s ready for Opening Day following this latest setback. He hasn’t made an appearance this spring in Cactus League action after missing last year recovering from shoulder surgery.
Kendall Graveman (back) will throw a live bullpen Tuesday.
Graveman will take part in the live session after throwing a bullpen over the weekend. The 34-year-old has been sidelined with back issues, and his status for Opening Day is up in the air. Once healthy, he should be a high-leverage option for the D-Backs’ pen.
Diamondbacks signed Kendall Graveman to a one-year contract with a mutual option for 2026.
According to the Arizona Republic, Graveman is guaranteed $1.25 million, but he can make as much as $3.3 million this season. The 34-year-old reliever missed all of last season following shoulder surgery. He had a 3.12 ERA in 66 1/3 innings in 2023, though that came with a 4.88 FIP and a 4.58 xERA.
