Kelby Tomlinson has announced his retirement from baseball.
Tomlinson, 31, hadn't played in the majors since 2018. He batted .265/.331/.332 over parts of four big league seasons.
Rockies released INF/OF Kelby Tomlinson.
Tomlinson was signed to a minor league contract without an invite to spring training in January after spending last year in the Diamondbacks and Mariners' organization. He hit just .247 in his time with those clubs -- all in Triple-A -- and with no minor-league season (likely) coming, he doesn't really fit as organizational depth.
Tomlinson signed a minor-league deal with Colorado on Monday, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
Tomlinson has parts of four years of big-league experience to his name, though he hasn't done much of note. In 687 career plate appearances for the Giants from 2015 to 2018, he hit a modest .265/.331/.332 with three homers. He endured a difficult 2019 campaign, hitting just .242/.301/.301 in 99 Triple-A games in the Diamondbacks' and Mariners' systems.
Tomlinson signed a minor-league contract with the Mariners on Saturday.
Tomlinson slashed .218/.320/.276 in 30 games with the Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliate in Reno before he was released May 12. As he changes organizations, the 28-year-old will stick around in the Pacific Coast League and provide some depth in the infield for Tacoma.
