Diamondbacks signed C Juan Centeno to a minor league contract.
Centeno is a career .223/.278/.323 hitter in 373 plate appearances for various clubs. The 32-year-old backstop provides organizational depth, but will likely spend most -- if not all -- of his time with Triple-A Reno.
Tigers signed C Juan Centeno to a minor league contract.
He will give the Tigers some catching depth at their alternate site. Centeno hasn't played in the majors since 2019.
Red Sox re-assigned C Juan Centeno, C Jhonny Pereda, INF Ryder Jones, OF Cesar Puello, and INF Stetson Allie to Triple-A Pawtucket.
Centeno was battling for a spot to back up Christian Vazquez, but he'll instead open the delayed 2020 season at Triple-A as minor league depth behind the plate.
Centeno suffered a sprained ankle during Saturday's spring training game against the Yankees, Julian McWilliams of The Boston Globe reports.
Centeno was able to walk off the field under his own power after injuring his ankle, and it appears as though he avoided a broken bone. The exact severity is unclear, but it wouldn't be surprising to see the catcher limited over the next few days in order to prevent a more severe injury.
