Joshua Palacios is starting in right field and batting leadoff for the White Sox on Thursday against the Twins.
This is the second straight start in right field and in the leadoff spot for Palacios, who’s gone 5-for-25 with eight strikeouts and three walks in 12 games. Brooks Baldwin will get the day off with Lenyn Sosa re-entering the lineup at second base.

With Mike Tauchman (hamstring) landing on the IL, the White Sox will turn to Palacios, who is hitting just .231/.421/.308 in five games at Triple-A. He’ll just be a backup at the big league level, even on the White Sox.

Palacios was recently designated for assignment by the Pirates. He went unclaimed on waivers and opted to test free agency. The White Sox will add him to their glut of veteran outfielders who have operated on the fringes of MLB rosters like Mike Tauchman, Austin Slater, Michael A. Taylor, Corey Julks and Cal Mitchell.

Palacios went unclaimed on waivers last weekend after being designated for assignment by the Pirates. The 29-year-old outfielder has opted to test the free agent waters and should be able to latch on elsewhere. He holds a .230/.286/.364 triple-slash line with 12 homers and seven steals in 156 games in the big leagues dating back to 2021.
