The Astros released relief pitcher Jose Veras from his minor-league deal.

Veras had a 5.68 ERA in 19 innings at Triple-A this season, and while some other team will probably sign him to a minor-league deal, he is unlikely to pitch in the big leagues this season.

Astros sign RHP Jose Veras to a minor league contract. He will report to the club's extended Spring Training facility.

It's an unsurprising move. considering Veras has spent time with the Astros during two of the last three season. The Astros bullpen has been one of the best in baseball, so Veras will likely function as depth and will not be expected to be an integral part of the late-inning plans in Houston.

Jose Veras will join the Braves as a non roster invitee at spring training.

Veras started last season with the Cubs but went 0-1 with a 8.10 ERA over 12 appearances before going to the Astros where he stepped up his game, going 4-0 with a 3.03 ERA. If you look past his poor stint with the Cubs, Veras has been a very reliable reliever and should be able to find a major league job this season.

Free agent reliever Jose Veras is talking to four teams.

Veras helped his value by finshing the season strong for Houston in 2014. He put up a 2.84 ERA with 31 strikeouts in just over 25 innings of work after the All-Star break. There have been up to four clubs said to be interested in the 31-year-old righty. We should see him find a guaranteed roster spot as a middle reliever or setup man.
