José Marmolejos has signed with the Tohoku Rakuten Golden Eagles in Japan.
Marmolejos became a free agent back in October and will try his luck overseas. The 28-year-old has struggled during his opportunities in the majors, but he won the Triple-A West MVP Award this past season on the strength of a .338/.439/.672 batting line with 26 homers over 83 games. Tacoma Rainiers broadcaster Mike Curto notes that he was scouted heavily by Japanese teams during the season.

Marmolejos was sent outright to Triple-A Tacoma after passing unclaimed through waivers in mid-September. He'll test the free agent waters this offseason. The 28-year-old corner outfielder owns an underwhelming .183/.262/.362 triple-slash line with 10 homers and 30 RBI across 237 plate appearances at the major-league level.
Mariners sent 1B/OF Jose Marmolejos outright to Triple-A Tacoma.
The 28-year-old had been designated for assignment earlier in the week, but passed through waivers unclaimed. He'll continue to serve as depth for the M's at the Triple-A level. He slashed just .160/.262/.311 with four homers and 12 RBI in 122 plate appearances for the Mariners.
