Jose Iglesias doubled twice, knocked in two runs and walked twice Sunday versus the Rockies.
It doesn’t seem like the Padres are going to lose much at all in going to Iglesias at second base while Jake Cronenworth is out. The veteran is hitting .292/.370/.375 in 27 plate appearances. Never one to show much patience at the plate, he’s actually slightly over four pitches per plate appearance so far this year. It probably won’t keep up, but it’d be a first for him.
Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports that veteran infielder Jose Iglesias has made the Padres’ Opening Day roster.
He’ll join fellow non-roster invitees Gavin Sheets, Martin Maldonado and Yuli Gurriel to make the team’s Opening Day roster. When he’s playing regularly, Iglesias has proven to be a viable source of batting average and the occasional stolen base, just don’t expect him to be a five-category contributor if looking his way at the end of fantasy drafts.
Jose Iglesias went 2-for-3 and drove in a run on Sunday afternoon as the Padres eked out a 4-2 victory over the Angels in Cactus League play.
Iglesias drove in Tyler Wade with a sharp RBI single off of right-hander Kyle Hendricks in the second inning that made it a 2-0 ballgame. He also singled off of Hendricks again in the fifth inning. He’s heating up after getting a late start to the spring, hitting .267 (4-for-15) with a pair of RBI.
Robert Murray of FanSided reports that the Padres are signing infielder Jose Iglesias.
Murray reports that it’s a minor-league deal that includes an invitation to spring training. The 35-year-old will get $3 million if in the majors, with another $1 million possible in incentives according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Iglesias will need to be added to the 40-man roster, but his ability to play a few positions in the infield and handle left-handed pitching gives him a good shot of winning a job with the Padres to open 2025.
