Diamondbacks selected the contact of LHP José Castillo from Triple-A Reno.
José Castillo (adductor) will throw a bullpen Tuesday.
Castillo has been out of action since suffering an adductor strain February 22. The left-hander is attempting to win one of the final spots in the Arizona bullpen, but time is running out.
Diamondbacks re-signed LHP José Castillo to a minor league contract with an invitation to spring training.
Castillo returns for a second season with Arizona as extra left-handed relief depth after posting a respectable 4.35 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 21/7 K/BB ratio across 20 2/3 innings (21 appearances) last year at hitter-friendly Triple-A Reno. The 28-year-old southpaw has been limited by injuries in recent years, but has made 40 relief appearances in the big leagues since 2018.
Jose Castillo is considered day-to-day after X-rays on his injured hand came back negative for any fractures on Saturday.
Castillo was hit by a comebacker during Saturday’s Cactus League contest, but fortunately he was able to avoid any serious injury. Expect him to return to the hill in a couple of days where he’ll continue to push for a spot in the team’s Opening Day bullpen.
