Giants released RHP Jorge Guzmán.
Guzman signed a two-year minor league contract with the Giants last February and didn’t end up making it to the majors for San Francisco. The 27-year-old right-hander was a highly-regarded pitching prospect a few years ago with the Marlins. He hasn’t appeared in the majors since the 2021 campaign.
Giants signed RHP Jorge Guzman to a minor league contract.
It's actually a two-year minor league pact, per Guzman's representatives at PNY Sports. It's unusual to see a two-year minor league deal, but Steve Adams of MLB Trade Rumors reports that he required elbow surgery and is still rehabbing. Guzman just turned 26 last week and is best known as part of Giancarlo Stanton trade with the Yankees in 2017. In addition to the recent elbow issues, he allowed eight runs on six hits (including two homers) and eight walks over 2 2/3 innings with the Marlins between 2020-2021.
Marlins sent RHP Jorge Guzman outright to Triple-A Jacksonville.
He was activated off the 60-day injured list before the assignment. Guzman has been limited to just three relief appearances with the Marlins over the last two seasons due to recurring elbow issues. The 25-year-old righty, who was acquired from the Yankees in the Giancarlo Stanton trade back in 2017, is now off the Marlins' 40-man roster and has the option to elect free agency.
Marlins transferred RHP Jorge Guzman to the 60-day injured list.
Guzman landed on the injured list last month due to soreness in his right elbow and now it's clear that he'll miss the remainder of the 2021 season. While no corresponding move has been announced yet, this will free up a spot on the club's 40-man roster.
