Venters (shoulder) underwent surgery in mid-August to address a torn capsule in his left shoulder and will miss the rest of the season, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
Venters has been on the injured list since early July and now won't be able to throw for about four months, so it's no guarantee he'll be ready for spring training, assuming he opts to continue his career. The 34-year-old finished the season with 11 runs allowed and a 12:10 K:BB across eight innings with the Braves and Nationals.
Venters (shoulder) was transferred to the 60-day injured list Wednesday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.
This move comes after Venters suffered a setback during a rehab appearance earlier in the week. The right-hander won't be eligible to return until Sept. 10 following his move to the 60-day shelf. Daniel Hudson, who was acquired from the Blue Jays on Wednesday, was added to the roster in a corresponding move.
Venters (shoulder) experienced discomfort after two pitches in a rehab appearance Tuesday and will have his MRI reviewed, Byron Kerr of MASN Sports reports.
Venters has been sidelined with a shoulder strain since July 12, and it appears as though his time on the 10-day injured list will last longer than expected after he suffered a setback in his first rehab appearance. The middle reliever carries an ERA of 12.38 with a 12:10 K:BB in 12 appearances for the Braves and Nationals this season.
Venters was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder strain Thursday.
The nature of the injury was initially undisclosed but was confirmed as a shoulder strain by the Nationals on Friday. If the issue isn't a severe one, Venters could be back as soon as next Thursday, as the move was made retroactive to Monday, but the team has yet to announce a timeline.
