Giavotella joined the White Sox's organization in mid-May and spent a majority of his time at the Triple-A level, hitting .225/.225/.250 with one extra-base hit in 11 games for Charlotte. He will look to latch on with another club in the coming weeks, though it's highly unlikely the 30-year-old will make an impact in the big leagues in 2018.

Giavotella signed a minor-league contract with the White Sox on Saturday and will report to Double-A Birmingham.

Giavotella spent spring training with the Marlins but failed to earn a roster spot and was released from Triple-A New Orleans in early May. The 30-year-old struggled with a .214/.389/.250 slash line in 28 at-bats for New Orleans and should serve as organizational infield depth with his new organization.

Giavotella revealed Wednesday via his personal Twitter account that he was released by the Marlins.

After failing to win a reserve infield spot with the Marlins while attending spring training as a non-roster invitee, Giavotella was assigned to Triple-A New Orleans to begin the season. He appeared in 10 games in the Pacific Coast League, hitting .214 across 28 at-bats before being cut loose to make room for JT Riddle (shoulder), who was optioned to New Orleans after being activated from the 10-day disabled list. Giavotella will try to latch on with another organization as infield depth in the high minors.

Giavotella agreed to a minor-league contract with an invitation to spring training with Miami on Friday, Tim Healey of the Sun Sentinel reports.

Giavotella spent most of this past season with Triple-A Norfolk in the Orioles' system, slashing .306/.368/.441 with five home runs and 45 RBI in 83 games. He did appear in seven contests for Baltimore, but didn't seem to have any consistent role with the club. Moving forward, he will provide infield depth for the Marlins, and will have a shot to make the opening roster out of spring training.
