Rodríguez has declared free agency. He had a 5.93 ERA in 14 relief appearances for Boston this season.

The Red Sox curiously started the season with Rodriguez as their only left-handed reliever while sending Brennan Bernardino to the minors. Rodriguez was then waived in May, made it through waivers, and was sent back to Triple-A, so this is now the second time the Red Sox have designated him for assignment this season. He has a 5.93 ERA in 13 2/3 innings this season and figures to go unclaimed on waivers again. Brad Keller was called up in a corresponding move.

Boston designated Rodriguez for assignment earlier this year, but he made it through waivers unclaimed and they kept him in the minors as depth. He had a 6.55 ERA, 1.54 WHIP and 11 strikeouts in 11 innings with the Red Sox this year.

Rodriguez slipped through waivers unclaimed and will continue to function as bullpen depth for the Red Sox in the upper minors. He’ll get another chance at some point during the 2024 season.
