2025 Player Outlook
Duran is an electric ninth inning arm, featuring overpowering fastball velocity (100.5 mph last season), not to mention an 88th percentile strikeout rate (28.9%), and does a pheomenal job avoiding the barrels of the opposition (98th percentile). However, despite that, he had a 6-9 record, and the team gave Griffin Jax 16 save opportunities over the course of the season. Duran had a rough go of things after the All-Sar break, but that elite dominant closer is in there as we saw before the Midsummer Classic (2.93 ERA, 0.98 WHIP). The team likely spreads out save opportunities again, but Duran should see the majority of those saves chances. Aside from saves, Duran should provide soild ratios, headlined by an excellent strikeout rate, easily putting him inside the top 10 players at his position.

Someday no one will remember that Rocco Baldelli seemed to want Griffin Jax to be the Twins’ primary closer this year. Duran has allowed two runs in 17 1/3 innings, and he’s collected four saves in the last week after finishing with just two in April.
Jhoan Duran struck out the side and picked up a save Wednesday against the Orioles.
Duran reached back and hit 100 mph on his fastball five times among his 14 pitches, and dominated the Baltimore lineup to pick up his fifth save. The scoreless outing lowers his ERA to a glistening 1.10, and he has only allowed one run over his 16 appearances. That’ll work.
