Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters after Sunday’s game that he expects Jesse Winker (oblique) to land on the injured list.
Winker suffered the injury to his side while making a throw to home plate in the fourth inning during the Mets’ first game against the Cardinals on Sunday. No word yet on the MRI results, but it sounds like the 31-year-old slugger is going to miss a couple of weeks at a minimum.
Mets’ manager Carlos Mendoza told reporters on Sunday that Jesse Winker will undergo an MRI exam after leaving the first game of their doubleheader against the Cardinals with discomfort in his right side.
Winker played in left field for the first time on Sunday afternoon and wound up injuring his side while making a throw to the plate in the fourth inning. It sounds like he’ll miss the nightcap at a minimum and depending on what the imaging shows, a trip to the injured list could be in order as well. Stay tuned.
Jesse Winker was removed from the first game of Sunday’s doubleheader against the Cardinals with right side discomfort.
Winker was in the midst of his first appearance in left field this season before being lifted for a defensive replacement to start the fourth inning. It sounds like he’ll wind up missing Sunday’s nightcap, which puts some strain on New York’s depth. He’ll presumably head for further evaluation and testing to determine the severity of the issue.
Jesse Winker is not in the lineup for Thursday’s bout against the Cardinals.
Andre Pallante is typically better against lefties than righties, so rather than Winker at DH, the Mets will have Starling Marte as the designated hitter. This platoon should continue for the foreseeable future, and it’s not great for either from a fantasy standpoint.
