Rosario was a notable prospect for the Red Sox just a few years ago, but has yet to reach the majors. The 24-year-old outfielder was claimed off waivers prior to the 2022 season by the division-rival Yankees and went on to post a .715 OPS with 10 homers and 11 steals in 429 plate appearances this past season for Double-A Somerset. He’s merely a lottery ticket for the rebuilding Athletics heading into the 2024 campaign.

Rosario passed through waivers unclaimed and will remain with the Yankees' organization. The 22-year-old outfielder was gobbled up off waivers from the division-rival Red Sox last month.

This move clears out a 40-man roster spot for utilityman Marwin Gonzalez. Rosario was claimed off waivers from the Red Sox toward the end of March.

The rivalry is back, folks. Rosario was designated for assignment earlier this week by the Red Sox and will wind up in their longtime rivals' minor-league system. The 22-year-old outfielder hit .232/.335/.307 with three homers and 11 steals in 98 games last year at Double-A Portland.
