Jazz Chisholm (oblique) revealed on Tuesday that “he is actually dealing with three separate tears in the oblique.”
The 27-year-old still claims he hopes to beat the 4-6 week timeline back onto the field, but this makes us feel like 6-8 weeks could seem more likely since he has to wait for three separate injuries to heal before he can start swinging a bat again. If you have IL spots, he’s an easy player to stash, but if you’re in leagues that don’t have any, it becomes a much tougher decision. We’d try to hold onto him if you can, but six weeks is a long time to wait if your fantasy teams are struggling.
Yankees’ manager Aaron Boone told reporters on Friday that Jazz Chisholm Jr. is dealing with a “high grade” oblique strain.
When asked how long the dynamic 27-year-old may be shelved for, Boone told reporters, “it’s going to be some time”. It sounds like he’s going to miss a minimum of four-to-six weeks depending on how quickly he can progress. It’s a brutal loss for the Yankees’ offense and for fantasy managers.
Yankees placed 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to Apr. 30, with a right oblique strain.
It was flank discomfort when he was injured on a swing Tuesday. Now it’s an oblique strain, though hopefully a mild one. The Yankees called up Jorbit Vivas in Chisholm’s place and ought to give him a look at second base over Oswald Peraza and Pablo Reyes.
Jazz Chisholm Jr. (oblique) is not in the lineup for Wednesday’s series finale against the Orioles.
No surprise here after Chisholm was lifted from Tuesday’s contest with right flank discomfort. The electrifying 27-year-old downplayed concern after the contest, but Yankees manager Aaron Boone wasn’t willing to rule out a potential trip to the injured list. He’s slated to undergo further testing on his right oblique prior to Friday’s series opener against the Rays. There should be an update on his status at some point in the coming days. Fantasy managers should consider him day-to-day for now. It’ll be journeyman Pablo Reyes filling in at the keystone on Wednesday night in his absence.
