Lopez announced Wednesday that he will retire from baseball, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reports.

Javier Lopez pitched a scoreless 1/3 of an inning to close out the Giants 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks on Thursday night.
The Giants sent their closer Santiago Casilla to the mound in the ninth with a two run lead but he was unable to finish the inning. He allowed a double, single, and a walk to load the bases with two outs and Bruce Bochy chose to replace him with Javier Lopez. It took four pitches to force Jake Lamb into a groundout to end the game and give Javier Lopez his first save of the season. The Giants will continue their four game series with the Diamondbacks on Friday.
Javier Lopez (biceps) said his bullpen session on Saturday went real well.
Lopez is on thin ice, as his 2014 stats were trending in the wrong direction. He put up a career low 5.26 K/9 rate and a terrible 4.54 BB/9. If he can regain his control, then he is valuable as a lefty out of the pen, but if the walk rate stays high, the Giant may just decide to cut him, despite being signed through 2016.
Javier Lopez (biceps) will throw a bullpen session on Saturday.
Lopez had been taking his time in Spring Training with mild tendinitis, but now appears to be set to be on track for the regular season. The Giants will need to rely on their pitching early on to win games, after Hunter Pence broke his arm and will be out to May.
