2024 Player Outlook
2023 Recap: Taillon went 8-10 with a 4.84 ERA and 1.28 WHIP for the Cubs last year, and his struggles against left-handed hitters (.266/.340/.514) were prevalent. He surrendered a double-digit barrel rate (10.7%) for the first time in his career, and the second-highest fly ball rate of his career pushed his HR/9 to a career high 1.57 HR/9 mark. His fastball velocity ticked down a bit, but his newfound cutter is becoming a bigger part of his pitch mix, and hopefully it can become a weapon for him against lefties in particular, running it in on their hands.
2024 Outlook: While it was a down year overall for Taillon, fantasy managers excited about his 2024 outlook can highlight his final eight starts of the 2023 season, where he posted a 3.04 ERA, 19.6 K-BB%, and 1.03 WHIP. He was attacking the zone more, and was able to get ahead of hitters, which is key for him, like most big-league pitchers. The stretch run provides some optimism for Taillon in 2024, and he should be better this year than he was last year. If things go well, he could win 10+ games with a 4.25 ERA and 1.25 WHIP, making him a solid target in the later rounds.
