Jake Marisnick is not in the Tigers' starting lineup for Thursday's matchup against the Phillies.
Marisnick has been functioning as the Tigers' regular center fielder since he was acquired by the Phillies, but he'll get a breather in this one. Akil Baddoo will slide over and draw a start in center while Tyler Nevin will start in left field and bat eighth against Zack Wheeler and the Phillies on Thursday evening in Philadelphia.
Tigers selected the contract of OF Jake Marisnick from Triple-A Toledo.
Marisnick, a .220/.280/.377 hitter in 282 major league plate appearances the last three seasons, will plug the Tigers' hole in center field for now. He'll likely be a big liability against right-handers, but he might contribute some steals and offer short-term value in deep leagues.
Jake Marisnick will have his contract selected from Triple-A Toledo on Wednesday.
Marisnick was acquired in a deal with the White Sox on Tuesday, and with Matt Vierling landing on the injured list he'll get an immediate shot at showing what he can do at the big league level. The 32-year-old has always been a spectacular defender and still has decent speed -- which means that he'll most likely be utilized in late-game situations as a pinch-runner or defensive replacement. In his big league career, Marisnick has hit just .228/.281/.384 over 2,166 plate appearances.
Tigers acquired OF Jake Marisnick from the White Sox for cash considerations.
The 32-year-old defensive wizard had been designated for assignment by the White Sox earlier in the week, so they were willing to take whatever they could get for him. Given his defensive prowess and speed, he could wind up working his way into a reserve outfielder role with the big league club in Detroit.
